Professor Michael Lewis

Professor of Oral Medicine and Head of Oral Surgery, Medicine & Pathology at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University. Professor Michael Lewis will provide an update on those mucosal conditions seen most frequently in general practice. Participants will be gain an understanding of the contemporary management of recurrent oral ulceration, lichen planus, geographic tongue and candidosis.

Professor Michael Lewis is an Honorary Consultant in Oral Medicine to the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and holds specialist registration in Oral Medicine. Professor Lewis's research expertise includes Oral Microbiology, antimicrobial chemotherapy and infection control. He is immediate past President of the British Society for Oral Medicine and Dean-elect of the Dental Faculty of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has also served as Chairman of the Specialist Advisory Committee in the Additional Dental Specialties from 2004 - 2007 and sits on the Advisory Council for Misuse of Drugs. His research expertise includes Oral Microbiology, antimicrobial chemotherapy and infection control.

Miss Serpil Djemal
BDS, MSc, FDS(Rest), RCS, MRDRCS
Miss Djemal is a consultant in Restorative Dentistry and President of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry. She will will provide an update on the current trends in restorative dentistry, and the implications of this for the dental team.

After qualifying in 1988 and general professional training, Miss Djemal did her MSc in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute in 1991, and her Senior Registrar training at Kings, St George’s and the Mayday Hospitals. She was appointed Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Barts and The London in 2000. A very energetic Hon Secretary of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry, Miss Djemal was installed as its President during its 2008 London Meeting, the Society’s 40th Anniversary year. A recent move takes Miss Djemal to Kings College Dental School in London. Her clinical and research interests include clinical outcomes in root canal therapy, maxillofacial prosthodontics, hypodontia, and the management of tooth surface loss and discoloured teeth using minimally invasive techniques. |

Mrs Ros Gardner
Ros is a professional keynote speaker on the subject of Customer Care Excellence. She has spoken widely at conferences in Europe. Her talk will consider key themes in customer care and loyalty which can be applied to practice.

Ros has spoken to senior management and front line personnel in the UK and internationally. Ros is a member of the National Speakers Association (USA). She is also a Founder Director of The Professional Speakers’ Association in the UK, and a member of the National Federation of Consumer Groups. She is also a member of the Human Genetics Commission, and the Independent Service Delivery Reviewer for the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman.
